The conventional scenario of how prophetic events from the Bible will play out has changed. During the first two decades of the Twenty-first Century, dramatic developments have shaken the usual interpretation of what will happen as Bible prophecy is fulfilled. Just like the Great London Fire of 1666 (pictured above) which caused panic and apocalyptic fervor, people around the world have been shaken by unprecedented happenings: the global pandemic, the crashing of the world economy, the new threat of nuclear war between the superpowers, and continued unrest in the Middle East which could trigger such a war.
S Douglas Woodward brings together two superb scholars that stay closely attuned to events that have prophetic implications. John Haller and Douglas Krieger, each with enormous influence in the prophetic community, discuss what has happened and how it has altered the way that evangelicals interpret Bible prophecy.
The focus begins on events in Israel, still regarded as the key to unlocking the meaning of prophecy. Foremost is the core understanding of the relationship between Israel and the Church. Does the Church replace Israel? Are there two distinct programs for the Church and Israel? Or do they share in what Paul the Apostle described as “the Commonwealth of Israel” (Ephesians). Tensions continue around the “Two-state Solution” which has been the program the United States has sought to implement for over three decades.
However, opponents believe that this approach “divides the land” promised by God to Abraham and his descendants. As the US has striven to force its ‘solution’ on the Israelis, it has led to calamitous outcomes for the United States as documented by a number of Christian authors like Bill Koenig, John McTernan, and others.
Dispensationalism, through some of its promoters, argues that there are two gospels, one of Grace for the Church, and the Gospel of the Kingdom for Israel. Does this notion hold water?
The three participants take a close look at this controversial topic. What other challenges surface with the dispensational practice of “rightly dividing the Word” in order to systematize the Scripture message? There are a number of such critical matters discussed here. While there has been some pivoting, all three clearly evince a dispensational foundation (and Woodward continues to hold to the Pre-Trib rapture, one of the foremost dispensational doctrines).
Of course, perhaps no subject creates more difficulties for reconciling differing points of view, than the rebuilding of the Jewish Temple. Is a third temple soon to be built? Is it necessary before the Antichrist can reveal himself (2 Thessalonians 2)? Will a rebuilt Temple be the Temple of the Millennium, set forth by the Prophet Ezekiel (Ezekiel Chapter 40)? What are the political implications for the construction of such a Temple? Is its construction near? Does the full Temple have to be rebuilt or just an anointed alter for animal sacrifices?
Those who study Bible prophecy should avail themselves to the discussion here as numerous points will be raised that will offer new insights for many in the audience. Finally, in addition to significant new information, the three friends clearly bring levity to these serious subjects, making for an entertaining two-hour session.
