Does the Septuagint provide confirmation or contradiction to Hebrew Old Testament history?
In writing REBOOTING THE BIBLE, some might suppose I am arguing that the Bible makes historical errors and therefore needs to be scrubbed of inaccuracies. That is the opposite of my message. In fact, the Septuagint is a witness that can correct any minor mistakes that have been made in the Masoretic text.
While this article doesn’t make note that the Septuagint fragments and manuscripts found in the Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS) usually favor the Septuagint’s version, mos differences in the LXX and the MT aren’t material with the exceptions I point out in my book. The areas where there are major material differences are in messianic prophecy and primeval chronology, i.e. Genesis 5 and 11. To dig into this study chapters four and five of REBOOTING THE BIBLE. To find out why these material variations are there, study chapters two and three. If you just want dwell on the timeline, the real biblical timeline and not the false timeline of the King James Bible, study chapter five.
The book is available at Amazon in ebook or printed format.
But maybe you don’t care that the Bible is the most accurate ancient history of the early world, or why that supports your faith. If so, never mind. I’m certain your unbelieving friends or family will never ask you to give a reason for the hope that is within you. “In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” -1 Peter 3:15
