Noted author, screenwriter, and speaker, Brian Godawa appeared with me today on the Parker J. Cole’s show “Parker’s Comparables”. We discussed and debated which understanding of eschatology Best fits the prophetic assertions of the Bible. It was a fast 120 minutes exploring the Olivet Discourse, Matthew 24, Jesus’ predictions for what would happen within a generation of his pronouncements and, from my point of view, beyond.
Today was Parker’s birthday and she indicated that our coming together to discuss the topic was our gift to her. Of course, Brian and I may benefit most by becoming acquainted and by learning about one another’s position. Here is a link to the program. CLICK HERE.
The topic is not often discussed since the Preterist point of view doesn’t get much play in prophecy circles. Brian is a thoughtful and very well spoken proponent of Preterism. He is a convert from futurism having determined there are too many flaws in consistently interpreting the scripture from the futurist perspective. His book on the subject is, END TIMES BIBLE PROPHECY.
As for myself, I’ve been a committed futurist since I first learned about Bible prophecy by reading THE LATE GREAT PLANET EARTH in 1970.
For those that don’t know much about Preterism (the view that almost all New Testament prophecy has already been fulfilled prior to 70 AD), listening to our discussion will get you thoroughly updated on this school of thought. To be technically accurate, Brian is not an adherent to what is called ‘full Preterism’ which is good because that view is heretical. Brian believes that JESUS will come again and there will be a future Kingdom with JESUS at the head.
